what is our sewing social enterprise?
The Sewing Business at St. Luke N.E.W. Life Center is more than just a business, we work diligently to provide an environment that is supportive and nurturing to all of our staff members. All of our employees are graduates of our Resilient Communities or Employment Preparation Program. We train and hire the structurally unemployable. We offer job coaching and other support services in order to remove any barriers to their success in the workplace. The businesses at St. Luke N.E.W. Life Center offer the opportunity to learn a trade skill while establishing soft skills that lay a good foundation for continuous employment.
“Our mission is to aid individuals in becoming self-sufficient, and the sewing business is another way that we are “stitching lives together.””

our history
Our commercial sewing business became our first social enterprise. Starting in 2008, our business venture enabled us to offer employment opportunities to the individuals in our program. By teaching them to sew professionally we are able to provide local businesses and individuals with medical apparel, such as scrubs and lab coats, custom embroidery, specialty items, designer aprons, stadium blankets, and other items may be needed. Through this work we have been able to expand our mission and serve many at-risk individuals in Flint.
